Very familiar with the Roberts Bank port. Even though it has
doubled in size, you still need to make an appointment to
"dump". Roberts Banks is the convergence zone on the
North American west coast for the CP, CN, BNSF, trains
to unload. You can wait in line to dump for more hours

than you have to work. If history is any guideline, the

BNSF has always had to make reservations prior to

heading that way.

Two coal trains went by during swing shift, while cutting wheels... It's the closest area of the roho ta the 'new' main. They usually run 2 head end, and 2 shoving... Usually 120 auto-floods. Lotta coal.

Surely the 'appointments' are scheduled for 2LARRCO in advance. Two crew members in the lead cab crossing the border... How long could that possibly take? And IF they hafta wait ta dump...how much time do they sit in 'line'?

All that waiting around could be eliminated if we had our own facility here in Washington!

Long way from eastern Wyoming coal mines ta western Canada. Then back haul empties via the same route... That seems awfully inefficient ta me! Even IF yer only pulling empties with one powered unit, while the rest just idle, helping pump air...

With all the enviormental issues that WA has had in the past and the residents of BHam refusing or "whining " about no coal trains, I wonder what is going to happen. Last time I was in BHam, some folks at the local Freddy Myer said " We did'nt speak up, when Hanford came in, we better speak up now". Roberts Bank will be shut down in March for expansion and another dumper is being put in. Estimated coal, cans and some freight to increase by 17-35 trains a day. I beleive the empties go east to Fording Coal in the Fernie / Sparwood area not Wyoming. After listening to the BNSF talk to the Roberts Bank RTC, while I was waiting at a red light last week, I would think that they would get in faster if they actually talked like human beings and not "self serving sterotypical american me first attitudes".

Steamer you must realize by now, that WE are the chosen! And 2LARRCO is the best of the best! Proof? Uncle Warren's money coulda bought any other big railroad in North America, but he chose BNSF! Not UP, CSX, NS...CP, CN, or Class-II.

He chose us! Now we all happily toil away for Uncle Waren. And you wonder at our superior attitude? Hey we're Americuns. We're comin' ta Canada whether ya like it or not! Open them gates...we're up first! Get them other trains outa our way!

Uke, it takes almost as power to pull a hopper train as it does to pull a coal train. More in certain conditions.

Now you've done it Snippy! Ranger Uke is conphused over the power to weight ratio. Pulling 120 loads (Coal), each weighing 110 tons is one hell of a lot of coal! Nobody wants ta be hit in the ass by it. Then again, nobody really wants ta have a television ta fall on 'em either.

Weight doesn't have all that much to do with it in GAWD's coal operation of hopper trains. Moran.

Hmmm... More conphusion. Tractive ephphort is meaningless tu! Not ta mention drawbar pull. Uke was misinphormed.

Guess about all I can say about this now is that I'm just a
citizen of the county. I'm just an observer. The Railroad
certainly can run as many trains a day as they have the
traffic to merrit on their tracks. Bellingham I feel in the
long run will accept whatever the railroad is going to do.

Think of sails catching wind, Uke.

Snippy, LAMCO ran all sorts of MTY trains with one unit slugging it out across the road in this part of the country. Speed was never important. LAMCO didn't care about no speed. Maybe its different now.

Uke is also a citizen. And an observer of the railroad. 2LARRCO runs in Uke's back yard as it were. And Uke observes trains passing his work place while slaving away for Uncle Warren, who owns 2LARRCO. It is an odd proposition, but satisfying on some level.

Uke has observed, on more than one occasion, coal trains, loaded coal trains heading towards Canada, being pulled by TWO locomotives. Those locomotives are working hard, probably in throttle 8 pulling those very heavy, loaded coal cars. Each coal car may weigh up to 110 tons, and a few may weigh more.

At the rear of said loaded coal train, depending on its length, are TWO more locomotives (Although on occasion ONE has been observed) pushing, or shoving in railroad jargon, said loaded coal train, which is enroute to Roberts bank, British Columbia, Canada.

Uke has also observed trains which have returned from Roberts Bank. More often than not, only TWO engines are actually 'on-line' or pulling this empty train of formerly loaded coal train, while the TWO locomotives at the rear may now be idling, and not actually needed to work by shoving a now EMPTY string of coal cars.

But Uke has never run a railroad, or a train of any type, hence Uke knows nothing about railroading, running trains, tractive ephphort, drawbar pull, or how these phactors work in combination to actually move a loaded, or empty coal train from Point A (Wyoming) to point B (Roberts Bank), then return said train which has been unloaded in Canada, to Wyoming for reloading.

Uke thanks everyone who has contributed to this thredd, especially Snippy.

Well there you go Uke, you need to go to conductor skool, and take a ride. After the ride, retire. Then you will no longer be in the dark about such matters.

Hmm, A suggestion, perhaps there should be like we had in the AF when one retired. It was the person's fini flight. Maybe, as a gesture to ones service to their Railroad, one should be offered a round trip on a train no matter what craft one worked in????

Might ask a trainmaster friend about a trip before retiring. Just one rounder ta learn, finally how much real fun TY&E have running trains.
