Lohan divides critics with SNL role

Lindsay Lohan has received mixed reviews for her fourth hosting stint on US show Saturday Night Live, despite it being a ratings success.

The troubled 25-year-old, dressed in a blue dress and sporting platinum-blonde hair, began her comeback bid with laughs as she poked fun at her personal troubles, reported MTV.com.

"I feel lucky and grateful to be here tonight and that's why I really want to thank all of my friends at SNL who trusted me enough to have me back. This studio feels like home to me," she said, before a siren sounded when she started to move.

"Wait, so the alarm goes off if I leave the stage? I thought it was if I left the studio!" quipped the actress.

Lindsay was joined by Kristen Wiig, Jason Sudeikis, Bill Hader, Jimmy Fallon and Jack White on the show, which featured several sketches making fun of her legal troubles, time in rehab and flailing career.

Her episode is now down as the second most watched SNL of the 37th season, as NBA legend Charles Barkley took the top spot, reported TheInsider.com.

While the audience were quite supportive, some critics questioned Lindsay's acting ability and her reliance on cue cards, with the New York Daily Post saying that she "stumbled through her lines".

lindsay lohanI hope you like yourself some Lindsay Lohan because girl's about to be all up in our grills for the next few days. She's going on some media blitz to ... prove she's sober? Prove she can still move her mouth after all those heavy lip injections? Not sure. That's all TBD. We'll get a glimpse at her agenda tomorrow when she sits down with Matt Lauer on the Today show, then again on Saturday night when she hosts SNL.

But until we really know what she's up to, let's talk about her new, um, look.

There was no mention of who will play Burton or when the film will air.

Taylor and Burton met as co-stars of the 1963 epic "Cleopatra." They fell in love as the world looked on, left their respective spouses and got married. Then they divorced, only to remarry and divorce again.

In recent years the 25-year-old Lohan has gained her own measure of notoriety. "Liz & Dick" represents a step in her attempted career comeback.
