Trains delayed as police try to get man out of tree

SEATTLE -- The Seattle Police Department has spent most of Friday morning trying to get a man out of a tree in Magnolia while he is instead taking off his clothes and tying them to the tree branches.

According to police, the man was spotted 40 feet off the ground in a tree next to the train tracks near 34th Avenue West and Gilman Avenue West before 6 a.m.

A police negotiator is trying to talk the man into coming down from the tree. Meanwhile, multiple Sound Transit Sounder commuter trains from Everett have been delayed by the whole ordeal.

The man is possibly involved with reported property damage nearby, according to police.

We'll update the story when we have more information.

It's just a Whistle-Dick trying to get an exclusive vantage point for a photo.

He's tying his clothes onto adjacent tree limbs in an attempt to fashion a "blind"

so as not to scare the "choo choo's" away.

Guess he was disappointed when he didn't get a pic... Our man at the helm Gus "Mister Eyes" Melonas alerted the boys in blue, who managed ta get the dude ta surrender with nary a struggle. He climbed down on his own!

Seattle's finest have been known ta shoot first, and don't bother answering questions later... But in this little shake up cooler heads prevailed and our tree-hugger was talked down. I would imagine Gus's bonus is secured for 2013!

On the other hand, Buckethead's bonus could be diminished yet again!

One of the greatest examples of MIR and how this event
fucked over the train traffic and in this case a lot of passengers
on their way to work. This kind of thing can have you in a
good lather by the time you do get to work. It's like who
could guess this could happen and effect the running of trains.
MIR.

That was Gus keeping his eyes on the railroad 24/7.

Burglary suspect up a tree in Magnolia 3 hours before surrendering to police

A burglary and assault suspect surrendered to Seattle police Friday after spending three hours perched in a tree in the Magnolia area.

Seattle Times staff reporter

A burglary and assault suspect surrendered to Seattle police Friday morning after spending three hours perched in a tree in the Magnolia area, while police and firefighters watched from below.

The incident halted all rail traffic through the area, including the Sounder commuter train, as hostage negotiators urged the man to come down from his spot about 40 feet off the ground near railroad tracks south of the Ballard Locks.

The suspect, identified by police as Victor A. Mason, 38, had threatened to harm himself while up in the tree, police said.

Seattle police Detective Mark Jamieson said Fridays events started about 2 a.m., when Mason allegedly went to his ex-girlfriends home in the 4600 block of 33rd Avenue, forced his way inside and assaulted her male roommate.

The roommate suffered a broken foot in the attack and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Mason came back to the house at about 5 a.m. and broke out some windows, Jamieson said. The ex-girlfriend fled, and was later located unharmed.

A police officer investigating the broken-window complaint was flagged down by a motorist who had heard someone calling for help, possibly near the railroad tracks near 34th Avenue West and Gilman Place West.

Officers found Mason in the tree about 5:30 a.m., and a hostage negotiator was called.

At least twice, the man climbed partway down the tree, then returned to his original spot, before finally coming down on his own at about 8:30 a.m., when he was taken into custody.

Police said Mason was booked into King County Jail on investigation of burglary, assault and malicious mischief all felonies.

According to the Department of Corrections, Mason was also wanted for failing to report to his community-corrections officer after serving prison time for assault and attempted robbery.

Rumor has it that he pre-empted that by shouting "Please don't taze me bro!" Which is the recognized international signal to not taze! Mason was smart enough NOT ta dare cops ta take serious action, otherwise he might've been harmed inadvertently...since the local cops were all heavily prepped for bear this time!
