Yeah. I peeled it off the stove, and the microwave thing. Now the two "clocks" left are in the Ranger (a pain in the ass!), and the ol' Toyota Supra! That's it! One, two, three, four, five... Maybe eight time keeping things in all.

Most amazing? The cell phone updated its own time ta reflect "Daylight Savings Time" automatically! Hah!

This crap of changin' clocks twice a year is still a big pain in the ass! Just 'cause yer retired doesn't mean you're free from it! Nope! Everybody else is stuck with it tu!

Appointments are made accordingly. When the dentist office calls, or e-mails ya ta remind ya, you best be in that chair at noon, that exact day...not an hour later! Or show up an hour earlier. (Unles ya like ta read two year old "Ladies Home Journal," or "Parents Magazine")!

Most of us will be moving our clocks ahead one hour this weekend, with daylight saving time going into effect

For some, it's a minor annoyance. Others want to get rid of it altogether, even petitioning the White House.

There is no spring-forward in tropical Hawaii, nor in arid Arizona where the thought of scorching summer days ending at 9 p.m. got people hot and bothered. They also don't set clocks ahead in the Hopi Nation, in northeast Arizona, but they do in the Navajo Nation, which completely surrounds it. Call it a "daylight saving donut."

Michael Downing, a Tufts University lecturer, said daylight saving was originally meant to save electricity with lighting at homes.

"Here's the problem: in Detroit on Sunday, people are going to wake up, and the sunrise won't occur until 8 o'clock, and they're going to have to turn on lights," he said.

Downing, the author of "Spring Forward," says daylight saving time is a boon for retailers. Downing said, "If you give Americans daylight at the end of the work day, they're more apt to shop on the way home."

But they have less time to drink. In 1997, Ohio University students rioted after clocks were shifted ahead and bars were forced to close an hour early.

In Russia, daylight saving time pits President Vladimir Putin against his protege, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, who abolished it in 2011.

At stake are lucrative primetime broadcasts of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. Russia was first put on daylight saving time by Joseph Stalin in 1928. But, Downing explained, "When October came, the Russians forgot to fall back. It wasn't until 1985 that an AP reporter stumbled onto the fact that the clocks were all wrong in Russia."

Only time will tell when all of this confusion will end.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) Daylight-saving time is this weekend. Clocks officially jump ahead an hour at 2 a.m. Sunday, although most people will reset their timepieces before or after sleeping that night.

So what's the point of the annual "spring forward" and "fall back" routine in March and November, respectively?

Daylight-saving time "has the effect of creating more sunlit hours in the evening during the months when the weather is the warmest," according to the National Institute of Standards and Technology.

The system, along with the nation's time zones, are administered by the U.S. Department of Transportation. The DOT offers these reasons for observing daylight-saving time:

It saves energy. During daylight-saving time, the sun sets one hour later in the evenings, so the need to use electricity for household lighting and appliances is reduced. People tend to spend more time outside in the evenings during daylight-saving time, which reduces the need to use electricity in the home. Also, because the sunrise is very early in the morning during the summer months, most people will awake after the sun has already risen, which means they turn on fewer lights in their homes.

It saves lives and prevents traffic injuries. During daylight-saving time, more people travel to and from school and work and complete errands during the daylight.

It reduces crime. During daylight-saving time, more people are out conducting their affairs during the daylight rather than at night, when more crime occurs.

The only places in the United States where daylight-saving time is not observed: the eastern time zone portion of Indiana, most of Arizona, all of Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

Under the Uniform Time Act, states can exempt themselves from daylight-saving time by state law.
