LYNNWOOD, Wash. -- Spring may have officially begun, but winter weather is hanging on in Western Washington.

The Puget Sound Convergence Zonereenergized Thursday night and was in full force early Friday, dropping snow in south Snohomish County and parts of northern King County.

Snow reports of anywhere from 1/2" to 1" have come in from Lynnwood, Mukilteo, Monroe, Mill Creek and Snohomish. (See live radar >>>)

Several school districts have delayed the start of classes, and police throughout Snohomish County are responding to spinouts and crashes as the morning commute gets under way.

The WSDOT had to close SR-522 at SR-9 near Maltby around 6 a.m. due to snow on the road. They hoped to reopen the road after plows could treat the snow.

The zone was expected to hang around through early Friday morning then gradually shift south and dissipate. But those of you in northern King County, especially above a few hundred feet, should be alert for a little snow later Friday morning as the zone moves south.

Already, some light snow and flurries were reported in North Seattle -- even a little in Downtown Seattle as dawn broke. Some of the higher hills could get an additional inch or so of wet snow accumulation, but showers will decrease throughout the day.

By this afternoon we should see some sunshine ahead of a chilly night.

Friday night is set to be one of the coldest nights in several weeks as temperatures drop into the upper 20s in the outlying areas to the low-mid 30s in the Seattle urban areas.

We'll be all dry by Saturday, save for a few clouds on the southern coast with highs in the mid-upper 40s. Looks like spring gets a firmer grip on the weather for Sunday and into early next week as we stay dry and even perhaps mostly sunny with temperatures climbing back into the mid 50s.

Last smoke break before I went to bed Friday morning,
it was coming down...the snow. I just went oh shit, good
thing I'm going to bed. Woke up 9ish am and had to go
downstairs to re-fill my water glass that I somehow knocked
over during my sleeping hours and noticed that about an
inch of snow was laying around. By noon Friday hard to tell
any snow had fallen at all. In fact it was a glorious sunny day.
