Rin Tin Tin was a huge silent movie star, much bigger than the dog that old guys like Uke might remember from the TV show.

I thought it was a very interesting story.

Anyone else been watching "The Roosevelts"?

While Uke admits watching Rin Tin Tin, or "Rinty"  on TV as he became known to legions of kids who grew up in the '40s, '50s, and later as his popularity waned... Uke also attended Saturday 'matinees' to see the latest episodes (and past reruns) on the big screen!

Did *cy* ever go to 'the movies' as a child? Uke remembers a time when a quarter (25 cents) would admit one to TWO movies, a cartoon feature, a newsreel, and a new flic, plus an 'oldie'!

As to the kid's favorite houn...uh, Shepherd:

Rin Tin Tin

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Rin Tin Tin from the film Frozen River, 1929.

Rin Tin Tin (September 1918  August 10, 1932) was a male German Shepherd Dog rescued from a World War I battlefield by an American soldier, Lee Duncan, who nicknamed him "Rinty". Duncan trained Rin Tin Tin (often hyphenated as Rin-Tin-Tin) and obtained silent film work for the dog. Rin Tin Tin was an immediate box office success and went on to appear in 27 Hollywood films, gaining worldwide fame. Along with the earlier canine film star Strongheart, Rin Tin Tin was responsible for greatly increasing the popularity of German Shepherd Dogs as family pets. The immense profitability of his films made Warner Bros. studios a success and helped advance the career of Darryl F. Zanuck. In 1929, Rin Tin Tin may have received the most votes for the first Academy Award for Best Actor, but the Academy determined that a human should win.[1]

After Rin Tin Tin died in 1932, the name was given to several related German Shepherd Dogs featured in fictional stories on film, radio, and television. Rin Tin Tin, Jr. appeared in some serialized films but was not as talented as his father. Rin Tin Tin III, said to be Rin Tin Tin's grandson but probably only distantly related, helped promote the military use of dogs during World War II. Rin Tin Tin III also appeared in a film with child actor Robert Blake* in 1947.

Robert Blake* may already be amongst the World Famous BJ.com "They Come in Threes" list

*At last report, the actor Robert Blake was amongst the breahing. However, he is 80 years old, which means he could kick it any day now.

Cy grew up out in what then was "the sticks". Wasn't any movie theater close by, sometimes in the summertime, we'd go to the drive-in movies. Wasn't any such thing as "quarter matinees", as far as Cy knew. That must mean that Uke is old.

Cy did remember Rin Tin Tin on TV but didn't know that there'd been a Rin Tin Tin who was a huge movie star dog until much later. Cy read the book. The author came to Cytown a year or tu ago and we were able to go see her and hear her talk. She didn't really talk about Rinty all that much. One thing Uke may find of interest is that the TV show had such a tight budget in the last couple of seasons that when they'd stage gunfights, Indian fights, whatever, the actor shooting someone would also be filmed in as the actor getting shot, because they couldn't hire any more stuntmen. Also, the man who played the lieutenant (James Brown, no, not that James Brown) thought the show completely ruined his acting career.

Uke finds that babby, that purported 'son of Gawd' particularly annoying! BurningJournaldotcom does not endorse any religion, cult, fad, or craze of any sort. Nor do we condemn the members, followers, and cultists either.

But we must draw a line somewhere! We don't want any religious nutcases or zealots around here!
