Its cold in the GPNW for a few nights in a row with

lots of NE winds strong enough to topple trees and

cause many to lose power. Its about 25 degrees

american out and its calm for who knows how long.

These howling gusty winds find some passage through

the Cascade Range heading west and it can blow

shit around. Portlandia OR is in for a very messy winter

storm for next few days. Dont want to be in the Columbia

River Gorge right now. Huge cold air moved into most of

the USA with some "longevity" as maybe 2-weeks in

duration. Stay warm my friends.

Well, yesterday evening at about -17° or 18° celsius (translate tu around the 0° mark Amerikhan) it felt pretty good out there walkin the dog under the stars. The thin poly cotton long johns and a good hat or hood are needed alright. The amazing hi tech clothing is lightweight, warm and more affordable nowadays. Still, you can't beat those old school dead animal skin bomber hats. IMHO But, no breeze to speak of this morning. And we are getting the easier gradual acclimatization period here, which is not always the case. Last weekend the wind was howling and that hurt for a day or tu.

Just like the first 80 degree days of summer which take
some getting used to..the first week of artic air in your
hood takes some getting used to as well. I'm 4-5 days/
nights into it now and its 24 degrees out and all I need
is a sweatshirt to go out for a smoke. Thankfully the
harsh/cold NE winds have subsided but when the wind stops
it just gets colder. Still frozen air can dip into the teens
for sure. Just heard on TV of the 1st burn ban going into
effect in the Puget Sound counties...figures..everytime
its freezing out and people need to stay warm they throw
this "curveball" out there to contend with. My firewood
supply is the best of the best and I can fine tune-it to
'zero visable emmisions" as the authorities do allow a
little smoke when you put another piece of wood on the
fire you have going. Ready to put this frozen spell behind
me as its kind of early for this to happen. The GPNW winter
could be any weather at this point in time.

Great photography, Bill. Thanks. Quite a resemblance to *** ***, ******** Canada. Goose down filled outerwear is in season, man. A quality pair of modern winter hiking boots is nice if you got the loose change.

Only got to -9º here last night. Since it's daylight now, we've climbed up to 0º...

Perhaps we could send a quilt or maybe a blanket, an extra sheet, at the least. Poor, freezing Snippy.

Thanks, *cy*. Snippy appreciates your offer of aid. However, money for Snippy's electric bill might allow Snippy to turn on his heat. Snippy has a hard time buying more than 300 KWH a month. This is outrageous!!!

This is quite a cold spell before mid-November in the GPNW.
Started last Tuesday..Veterans Day morning with blasting
gusts coming from the Cascade Range gaps with gusts
that for sure would take your hat off and shake your house
and then it got cold..real cold. I live out where it usually
gets colder and while I do read the thermometer before
I go to bed..temps can take some dips after that. Judging
by the frozen-dead vegetation..I'd say it's been in the upper
teens the last 3-nights and add tonight to that total. Doing
good as I got a fully stocked wood-pile. Weather is going to
change back to "seasonal temps/weather" early next week
..I'm all for that.

Snippy will wait another couple days for Admin Uke $666.6666666 jackpot to be diverted his way for 'tricity.

Then, it will be to the woodpile. Snippy never burns before December 1st. Never.

Snippy is going to do something he never did before December 1st
this year as the weather is so out-of whack. Already signs of artic
invasions headed for VA the rest of November. Usually when its
freezing out..you dont have to worry about snakes and spiders
in the wood pile. So does any of your wood pieces have some
moss on them?
