Many, many... Some we knew quite well through their music, movies, or other arts. Others we've only heard, or read about. Some very famous, more anonymous. But all notable in their own way.

Sgt. Peppers-style homage to celebrity deaths of 2016 runs out of space

A very nicely done audio montage accompanies their bios:

Here, there, and everywhere. I think it must be a sign of my advancing age that I don't hardly get through a week or two without someone I know or was acquainted with in some fashion, passing on. In the last week, it was a old classmate, a mother of some schoolfriends, and a fellow railroader, 80 years old, who hired out right after the N&W merger and used to say to me, "I'm gonna get you cut off, redass, this winter when the board's slow", but he never did.
Good guy, fondly remembered.

I don't even want to think how many people I've known who've died this year, it's scary but also a reality of being alive.

Thanks gents. This year, 2016 is coming to a close more quickly than we'd expected way back in in January. But speaking as one, I'm tired too. Tired of all these deaths, and thousands of other people dying caused through war, and diseases run amok, and murders, random street violence everywhere!

I'm not sure if there's anything we can do to stop, or control, or slow the unnecessary death of so many, so young, so vulnerable. But if we could, would we? This one, this little Syrian boy, just a baby...todler may have been 2016's most poignant and tragic of all. And the one that hurts beyond anything we could ever know!

Don't blame ***!

Wait a Moment, 2016 Will Be a Second Longer

For people who can't wait for this year to end, here is the science behind the Earth's leap second.

By The Conversation | Contributor Dec. 30, 2016, at 12:29 p.m.

Wait a Moment, 2016 Will Be a Second Longer

Fireworks light up the London skyline and Big Ben just after midnight on January 1, 2014 in London, England. Thousands of people lined the banks of the River Thames in central London to see in the New Year with a spectacular fireworks display.

There's an additional second, a leap second, at the end of 2016. They occur around every 18 months in relation to Earth's revolution. (Dan Kitwood/Getty Images)

By Darryl Veitch

To the time-poor of the world: take heart, for 2016 is a generous year. Not only were you granted a leap day on February 29, you will soon score a New Year's Eve countdown bonus, a leap second, to hold off 2017 for a final sip or regret.

Whereas leap years add a day to align the calendar with the seasons, leap seconds align our everyday clocks with the Sun's position in the sky, that is, with the Earth's rotation.

Currently our planet takes roughly 86,400.00183 seconds (on average) to turn, instead of the expected 86,400 seconds you get by multiplying 24 hours by 60 minutes by 60 seconds. This may not sound like a great difference, but it amounts to a full second every 18 months. If left unchecked, it would become noticeable over time, and ultimately become problematic.

Still haven't been in one...a pot store. Just know everything is sold by grams and so
much a gram in price. Then you add a hefty sales tax. I've been told by others that
its like going into a candy store. Just need a "little bit" to keep you going. Perfect
for the "out of towners" who just need some weed for the weekend.
