STSB has determined: Improperly secured load on center beam phlat car resulting in severe imbalanced condition that caused car to overturn to opposite side.

To whom does "Snippy", chief proprietor of STSB, send the invoice?

The warning is right there.  I always wanted to climb up there and put a cartoon balloon there saying, "Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!".

To the employer of the BOSS who accepted the car as fit to go, unless the car department inspected the car before the car was picked up.

UNLESS....Yer talking about unloading a spotted car, then the guy who accepted a leaning car or the guy who was unloading the car.

This happened years ago with a spine car going West thru OKONOKA interlocking. Usually you see bundles of sheetrock with the big plastic pillows in between stacks,

or different lengths of dimensional lumber (2x4, 2x10etc). This car was  loaded with stacks of what looked like wood siding.

Anyway Q401 Big Dog short on time rollin 50mph = next stop in the yard at Cumberland. DS had him comin west on #2 lit up all the way to come rite in at MEXICO. Amtrak 30 in the picture. Empty coal train runnin behind  Q401 was going to be held at OKONOKA for 30. DS called empty hoppers to let them know they'd meet 30 and then go straight to the safety stop to change crews, outbound crew was on duty.

As the Q401 passed OKONOKA the straps on the south side of the car decided to let go. The lumber came off that car like in sheets, like fanning out a deck of cards, unloaded the whole side of the car just like that in an area of several miles) All the boxes are up on stilts because of the Potomac River flooding, the wood hit the legs and knocked a couple out, plus knocked over several signal line poles. Couple miles up the road 30 tells Q401 they have a car leaning and 401 said they were going ta go rite in the yard so car dept would look at it. (roll my eyes)(somebody was thirsty and was thinking about the Brass Kactus bar)

Next thing ya know 30 is toning up the DS, they got Approach signal at Longs crossing. Empty Coal Train comes on the radio and tells Amtrak 30 they see wood all over and the signals are dark at OKONOKA. DS calls Q401 to ask them what they know and did they check the leaning car? BOSS said theyre going into the yard rite now and car dept is watching the train in....

That's when a Bang!!sssssssshhhh rang out. It got real quiet. Seems leaning car was doin OK till it went thru turnouts into the yard. 1 main, 2 main, PPG Lead, all blocked, shit load of lumber from other side of car spread everywhere.

30's BOSS was pissed he had to walk up and put all the switches on hand throw and line it up for him to cross from 1 to 2; Empty coal train then got  permission to line up 1 to 1 and 2 to 2.OKONOKA was out a couple days. Didn't get any good quits for awhile after that.

P&W (Portland and Western Railroad) issued a statement which said "...we're still investigating..." but not much more'n that:https://democratherald.com/news/local/train-derailment-still-under-investigation/article_bc16441a-6361-503e-ba56-1ac1630efca6.html

Although I haven't driven by there ta check on the progress of the clean up. I suspect they've been busy all weekend clearing the mess off the rails, and picking up lumber, and wrecked cars!

Add to cart another MIR railroad event. Tank car runaway in Bethlehem PA that went 15 miles and a detector
said 49mph for top speed. Dint hit anything or derail.

Tuesday morning January 29 2019 MRL had a 40 car derailment loaded coal train on the downside of Bozeman Pass.
Big mess as you would expect and the line looks to be closed for a couple days. This/these coal trains usually 3-4 a day
destined for Roberts Bank BC and pass through Everett. Huge deal the MRL out of action as BNSF runs a lot of traffic
their way. Think the BNSF Billings to Shelby Montana line is capable of taking detours and probly doing so. Going to be
a sizeable hit on the coal trains for sure and all the ones empty or loaded that cant go nowhere. Also worth mentioning is
the Polar Vortex hitting the midwest and Chicago. Chicago cancelled all AMTK trains in/out for "2-days". US Postal Service
cancels mail delivery for "2-days" in the midwest. First time I ever heard of that. The derailment and the Polar Vortex weather
under the celestial influences of Sun conjunct Mercury/ Mars square Pluto...the latter aspect making the weather deadly/dangerous.
TO has the latest on the MRL derailment at Bozeman

that's right in the middle of "God's Country"... been in that area a lot fishing...

Krink... the Laurel to Great Falls line will be able to accommodate a few detours, but when I left most of the line was 25mph and had few decent sidings for meets... the GF crews were always being dogcaught or dying upon arrival at Laurel... if I remember correctly GF only kept about 3-4 turns in that pool..

A couple of just happened railroad incidents as the BNSF had a rear-ender near Guernsey Wyoming with units into
the river. TO has a thread going.

www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php

Then near Field BC a CP train was a runaway and 3 crewman died as their locomotives plunged off a bridge into the river
and 60 cars and a DPU in a tangled mess in remote territory.
