COLUMBUS, Ohio - One person is dead after a shooting in south Columbus, according to Columbus police.
Officers responded to a shooting in the 1200 block of Berkeley Road around 11 p.m. Wednesday.
Officers found the victim, identified as 19-year-old Jordan Charlese Victorya Williams, lying in the front yard and suffering from a gunshot wound.
Police say their investigation revealed that Williams lived at the residence with her grandfather, identified as 72-year-old Booker Moody. Investigators say Williams did not have her keys and was locked out of the home. According to police, Williams knocked on a bedroom window to try and wake her grandfather when he allegedly fired a shot through the window, not realizing it was his granddaughter.
Police say they were able to move the victim to a waiting ambulance despite dealing with an active shooter situation in the home. Williams was transported to Grant Medical Center where she died from her injuries.
Police charged Moody with murder.
