My home town lost Trailways and then Greyhound back in the 80's.

It was common back then to watch an empty bus stop in the middle

of the square and block parked cars for a couple minutes. There was

a lunch counter you could get a coffee and a sandwich.

The guy who ran the jitney service was getting old and after the busses

left he couldn't afford the rent on the building with what he made on

the jitney and the sandwich shop, So he closed them and dispatched

the jitney by radio from his home.

So for a small fee you could get a jitney to the next town where the

bus still stopped. The only people SOL were the regulars at the sandwich

counter. Sheetz came in and filled that gap.
