It's next:

Wyoming is facing a potential crisis. Coal mines have shut down, hundreds of people are out of work, unemployment offices are overwhelmed, and there appears to be worse to come.

The coal industry, long seen as a friend and economic linchpin in the state, is falling apart, and the very communities that have supported it most are getting screwed over in the process.

This wasnt supposed to happen in Wyoming. After all, its not like Appalachian coal country (West Virginia, eastern Kentucky, and Pennsylvania, along with eastern Ohio and parts of Alabama, Maryland, Tennessee, and Virginia).

Appalachia, which has been ground into codependent poverty by the coal industry over the course of a century, has been declining, in coal output and employment, for decades. Lately it has only gotten worse, as companies declare bankruptcy, executives get healthy bonuses, polluted coal mines are abandoned, and miners and retirees are denied long-promised health benefits and pensions.

Coal in eastern Kentucky has largely played out....there's only so much it can produce these days. however in West by gawd Virginia mines are opening every day....the lack of rail cars due to PSR is what is keeping it from shipping. The power that be only went so many cars on line and they are running the crap out of them. The rest are in storage and may never move again.

BN moved one helluva lotta Powder River coal north ta Roberts Bank in British Cloumbia, for trans-loading into bulk carrier ships ta China, Japan, and Korea back in the late '80s through the '90's and earlier 00's (aughts). Lotsa coal!

Stocks? Yeah I did buy into coal... Western mining firm Westmoreland going bankrupt. And before that, in 2015 and 2016, three of Wyomings biggest coal producers Peabody Energy, Arch Coal, and Alpha Natural Resources declared Chapter 11 and underwent restructuring. Almost 500 workers lost their jobs on a single day in 2016.

I sold 'em off about 2011, 2012. or so. The dividends were pretty good. Especially from Westmoreland! Alpha was up and down. Arch still exists back east, and Cloud Peak still produces, and markets, mer-coal.

Now I own one coal company. Canadian outfit Teck Resources.

The Powder River coal to Roberts Bank is 3 loaded trains a day 365 days a year. Not sure how long the contract
is for in years but its going to a power plant in China. Not sure the BNSF Bellingham Sub can handle more than
6 coal trains either loaded or empty a day. There was/is a push to find another coal port on the west coast that hasn't
happened yet. In the meantime BNSF could land a separate/new deal with overseas shipments of coal at Roberts Bank.
The GPNW catching up with movement of coal in the overall history of movement of coal.

Psssst! Over here. You heard it here first: Coal is deader than Trump's dick.

Its over for new coal terminals in the U.S. Plenty of capacity back East for met coal, the good schitt. Demand for PRB dirt for China is heading down intu the proverbial ADA elongated bowl.

Aw hell, maybe theyll burn that dirt in the Indian and African steam plants the Chinese are building. I think theyll probably go solar micro-grids and skip the whole maxi-plant and grid buildout.
