 Actually we saw Avatar 2, a couple months ago.  We bought the tickets online and you just walk in.  The line was for the popcorn and candy.  

Now that I think about it, no one ever checked our tickets, but if you sneak in you'll most likely end up in someone elses seat.

 Ironically a movie theater parking lot is still probably the go to for that.
