Friday there was a wind storm predicted with gusts 40-60mph. Port Angeles WA got hit hardest early in the morning
and the whole city without power for 12 hours. My hood it was calm all day but just after dark the roar began up in the
tall tree tops. I started fixing my dinner a little early as the lights began to flicker. Managed to cook/eat/cleanup dinner
and pour a cocktail before the lights went out for good about 7pm. So outside in the dark watching and listening to wind.
Best way to describe it is these gusts were like "shockwaves" as the volume of what was 20-10-5 miles away is here and
taking down trees and tripping transformers with bright flashes in the sky and its loud outside. Witnessed about 4-5 of these
"pulses of wind" that had the majestic cottonwood trees dancing to the breaking point. Think the hood is spared damage other
the power out for an hour and a half. Seattle still had 70K without power as of 11pm news. Tomorrow we may get some actual
wind gust reports but I can say from experience the gusts I got Friday evening were 55mph+. Doesn't sound that scary?
It was. Especially when trees are being blown down around you and your house.

Heard discussion that a polar vortex over WA/OR is very unlikely/impossible due to the temp of the Pacific Ocean
and the mountains. The nearest comparison is the "North Easter" which follows the Fraser River Canyon from the Yukon
and further north and spill out in northwest WA/BC lower mainland with 50MPH winds and the wind chill drops by the minute.
Usually some snow to start it it off that will stick around for a week. It's the "wind" most Whatcom County residents will
tell you is the worst part and everything is frozen. 10PM Walter Kelly Wednesday says we going to get some snow Sun/Mon
and how much still to be known. Forcast still undergoing fine tuning. One thing for sure it will be 3-4-5 nights down to 20F
which would be the coldest stretch so far this winter. It doesnt look to be a long lived North Easter as sometimes they can
last 2-weeks this one 2-3-4 days. After watching the live bird feeder in Akron OH and that crowd showing no effects of
eating from the feeder in single digit temps I'll be sure to setout seeds like usual.

BIG snow storm hits Settle! First time since about '96, when 4" closed everything down. Nothing moved for damn near a week!
