Ler's see here... "The Ritzville Nightmare" took place in 2005. Yep. And the resulting memories of that provided members of bj.com many laughs, yuks, chuckles, and yep...a few smart-assed remarks. But Uke has indeed moved on.

As mentioned previously, Ritzville, Washington, USA IS a well known speed-trap! And IF one manages to beat, or get away with 'speeding' through their 'zone' your wallet will weigh a few bucks lighter. (Pun intemded!)

So yeah, Ritzville is waaayyy...behind me. The next town? East along I-90 may be Cheney. Small (?) farm town, home of Eastern Washington University. BN, UP and a couple regionals, and shortline outfits pass through, or interchange cars there. Grain is the usual commodity.

Guess I failed to mention that Cheney (Spokane County) sits in the middle of the Washington 'grain' belt. The area is known for exports of wheat, lentils, corn, dry peas, and other minor grains. Although their biggest claim to fame is and always will be is wheat.

I took a great video of a BN empty grain train going through Cheney back in 1994. BNSF mainline

between Spokane and Pasco is busy. Like you say there is a confluence of mainlines around Cheney.

Never spent a night in Cheney to see if train whistles will keep you awake at night but I think they might.

So this promo video of why you might like to live in Cheney WA I  noticed do not include one train whistle.

 

I know Cheney WA sees 50-60 BNSF trains and probly  14-18 UP trains a day so the area has to be filled

with train whistles 24/7. Train whistles not so bad 7 miles away.  

Every eastbound BNSF train in notch 8 through Cheney.

Weve gone from a unfortunate couple getting killed by a trucker crossing over a median to how fast **** Mustang will go to whistling through Cheney. Would that be considered off-topic?
